2026 Sydney Royal Easter Show - Public Relations Internship Opportunity!

Are you an energetic, pro-active student, looking to explore a career in public relations (PR) and event media relations? Do you have an interest in large-scale events, rural & regional Australia, and agriculture? 

 

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is offering one final year university student (studying PR, journalism, or communications) an unparalleled, exclusive opportunity to work with some of the top names in the state’s media industry, across television, radio, and print, all while enjoying Australia’s largest ticketed event – the Sydney Royal Easter Show.  

 

The internship will begin 4 weeks prior to the Show, giving you the chance to work one day a week with RAS staff in the lead-up to the event. During this time, you will provide valuable support in developing media opportunities for the Show, assisting with story research, talent sourcing, and media outreach, as well as providing general administrative support to the PR team.  

 

During the Show, you will be based in the Media Centre working alongside a team of experienced PR professionals from the RAS and our external agency, where you’ll play a key role in supporting media management and drafting media materials for the 2026 Show. 

 

You will also spend a significant amount of time on your feet, navigating the hustle and bustle of the Show with media crew, and getting up close and personal to all the action.  

 

Key opportunities include: 

  • Meeting and working with major metropolitan, suburban, and regional media, gaining invaluable  industry experience and contacts for your future career. 
  • Identifying and chasing newsworthy stories and talent for TV news programs, radio, and print and online publications. 
  • Assisting the team with morning live weather crosses. 
  • Developing writing skills by drafting media materials, which may include media pitches and media releases.  
  • Gaining exposure to the diversity of agriculture, and a career in event public relations.

The 2026 Show runs from Thursday 2 April, to Monday, 13 April. To be eligible you will need to be available on the following days: 

  • Wednesday 4 March 
  • One day during 9-13 March (you may choose the day) 
  • One day during 16-20 March (you may choose the day) 
  • Friday 27 March  
  • Wednesday 1 April 
  • 10 days between the Show period of Thursday, 2 April and Monday, 13 April.  

 

We’re looking for proactive, agile thinkers, who can adapt and work under pressure in a fast-paced   environment. You will also need to have strong writing skills, exceptional attention to detail, be highly organised and have a sound news sense.

Assessment details: Media Release (Approximately 300 words) 

 

As part of your application, you are required to submit a media release of your own original work.You are welcome to use a piece that you have previously submitted for a university assessment. 

 

If you do not have a pre-written media release, or would like to write something new, you might like to develop a media release which discusses the importance of the Show for rural and regional NSW.  

 

This could include the role of the Show in bringing people together to celebrate and support rural and regional communities, or the challenges faced by rural communities and how the experience of the Show can positively impact them.
