About the role... A unique opportunity for an adaptive and dynamic WHS Manager to join our team, reporting to our General Manager of HR, at the Royal Agricultural Society. As the RAS’s WHS Manager you will enhance and promote our culture of safety and psycho-social well-being excellence across all aspects of business. You will provide leadership and support for all health, safety and workers’ compensation-related initiatives within the RAS’s high-risk operational and corporate teams. This role requires both a strategic and hands-on approach to coordinating, managing, evaluating, and monitoring safety and risk at the RAS. Key responsibilities within this role include but are not limited to: Deploy and oversee the Risk and Safety Management System (A Safe Show For Everyone - ASSFE). Ensure compliance with Australian standards, codes, regulations, and laws at all times. Manage Workers Compensation cases from initiation to resolution. Lead safety risk assessments and maintain the Risk Register. Review and update the RAS Emergency Management Plan, WHS policies, and procedures with key staff. Address risk assessment concerns for RAS and third-party events. Manage and deliver onboarding training through the RAS Induction system. Investigate and report incidents, injuries, and hazards. Liaise with SafeWork NSW for notifiable incidents, including during the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Participate in WHS committee meetings and report on incident trends bi-monthly. Coordinate statutory and operational training needs for security staff. Oversee first aid, fire safety, and emergency management plans for events. Implement and coordinate emergency plans, acting as deputy/area warden during emergencies.
About you… Qualifications - Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent education
- Senior First Aid certification
- ISO 31000 Lead Risk Management
Experience Extensive WHS experience in high-risk environments (e.g., events, construction, or attraction safety). In-depth knowledge of Work Health and Safety and Workers Compensation Acts, industry standards, and regulations. Understanding of animal interactions is preferrable. Proven expertise in incident investigation, risk management, compliance, and injury management, including return-to-work programs. Skilled in WHS audits, safety reporting, and detailed risk assessments, with experience developing and implementing improvement plans. Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and drive WHS initiatives independently. Effective communication and relationship-building skills to coach and influence staff on risk management practices. Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and deliver outcomes in challenging circumstances.
